What weather would I expect during TRENZ?
Whilst New Zealand does not see the extreme temperature range found in most continental climates, you will be visiting New Zealand at the tail end of autumn. Because of this, you should be prepared for sudden change in weather and temperature.
If you feel the cold, several layers of clothing are recommended, with a warm overcoat or jacket for use when outside. In a typical Queenstown month of May, the mean daily maximum and minimum temperatures are 16ºC and 6ºC (61ºF and 43ºF.)
You can view current weather conditions in New Zealand on the Metservice website.
What to pack for my visit to New Zealand
During TRENZ New Zealand’s weather conditions are bordering on the tail end of autumn. If you feel the cold, several layers of clothing are recommended, with a warm overcoat or jacket for use when outside.
We also suggest when packing you consider the various TRENZ networking functions you will attend over the course of the TRENZ 2012 Programme:
- Welcome Reception - Smart/Casual
- Daily Lunches and Regional Rendezvous functions – Smart/Casual business attire
- TRENZ Farewell - Smart/Casual
What Maori expressions can I use?
English is the most common and everyday language of New Zealand, however not the only official one – Moari and English are both official languages of New Zealand.
In addition, New Zealand is a multi-cultural society and you may hear many other languages spoken. An attempt by a visitor to use Māori greetings will almost certainly elicit a delighted response from both Māori and Pakeha (European) New Zealanders. Here are some expressions (all pronounced phonetically) you can use whilst in New Zealand:
Kia ora — Hello
Tena koe — Greetings to you (said to one person)
Haere mai — Welcome
Kei te pehea koe? — How are you?
Kei te pai — Good
Haere ra — Farewell
Ka kite ano — Until I see you again (Bye)
Keeping well at TRENZ
If you feel unwell during TRENZ, we recommend you remain at your hotel and arrange to visit a doctor through your hotel’s reception or concierge. If you visit a doctor or require an ambulance in New Zealand, it is likely that this will involve a cost; however your travel insurance should cover this in most cases. You can pay the hospital or the doctor’s office. Travellers who are concerned about their health may also contact Healthline on 0800 611 116 (free phone) 24 hours a day, seven days a week for information and advice. Healthline is a free service staffed by registered nurses. If you are staying in your hotel for the day, please contact the TRENZ team. Organisers will then notify the Exhibitors you are scheduled to meet with.
