Why exhibit at TRENZ?
TRENZ is for New Zealand-based operators of tourism products and services that are already promoting and selling their product in the international market place.
Tourism Operators see a number of benefits in attending TRENZ. TRENZ makes good business and financial sense. The TRENZ format provides delegates the opportunity to meet and network with over 270 international travel and tourism business buyers from around the globe.
TRENZ in 2010 is a “must attend” event because:
- Focused appointments of 15 minutes where you can brief Buyers on your product. You and the Buyers get to select who you want to see, to ensure you get maximum benefit from appointments
- Tourism Buyers are looking to brochure product up to 18 months in advance, so TRENZ 2010 offers a fantastic opportunity to leverage on RWC 2011 with these companies
- New for 2010: We are looking to bring new Buyers from new and emerging markets to the event
- New for 2010: TRENZ will have a new online expo space – TRENZ Exhibitors will be able to put marketing information online that can be referenced by TRENZ Buyers pre and post TRENZ. The showcasing of your product starts early and carries on after the event
- New for 2010: a ‘speed meet’ session where you can further promote your business and product to Buyers
- A number of functions across the TRENZ week will offer you extra opportunities to network with Buyers and fellow tourism operators
- We are making improvements to the media programme to increase opportunities for you to put your product in front of international and domestic media. There are further opportunities for you to get your product highlighted to a wider international and domestic audience.
Companies wishing to exhibit at TRENZ 2010 must fit the Exhibitor criteria and submit an online application form. By submitting the application form the named applicant agrees to the Exhibitor terms and conditions.
Boosting the benefits of TRENZ 2010
At the conclusion of TRENZ 2009 TIA employed an independent facilitator to carry out in-depth research with current and past TRENZ Exhibitors .
The objectives of this research were to:
- Identify insights that will assist in maintaining the success and relevance of TRENZ for Exhibitors
- Identify what the ‘ideal’ TRENZ would look and feel like
- Identify specific enhancements to the existing format and processes for future events.
Participants represented a range of sectors and company sizes. Their involvement with TRENZ ranged from new Exhibitors to those who had attended over a number of years. Participants were also asked to rank their opinion of TRENZ to ensure we heard from those who were very satisfied with the event through to those who were unsatisfied.
A number of International Buyers were also asked for direct feedback on TRENZ and how we can ensure the event remains relevant for them and their business.
Here’s what you told us
- The essence of TRENZ is all about:
- Showcasing NZ’s tourism industry and ensuring it retains a high profile among international Buyers
- Providing tourism operators with direct contact with international markets
- Getting value for money (derived from being connected, relationship building and the potential to generate business)
- Being connected internationally and domestically, building on existing relationships and forging new ones
- TRENZ still offers value and is the best way for tourism operators and Buyers to meet and do business in the most efficient way. “You can’t do a road trip of the world markets on $10k.” “TRENZ is cheaper than a NZ trade mission.” Exhibitors in the post-TRENZ workshop
- Core elements of the event are world-class, feel well organised and managed, and should not be changed – registration, appointment processes, 2009 numbers were fantastic and well balanced. “All in all it was focused, efficient and business-like” – Exhibitor in the post-TRENZ workshop
- The event length and frequency works well for attendees (international and domestic)
- There are some ‘must haves’ for TRENZ to ensure it continues to evolve and remain relevant
- Wow factor
- Networking
- Buyers
- Greater media involvement
These are further elaborated on under ‘what is being done for 2010’
So what is being done for 2010?
We are planning a number of innovations for TRENZ 2010 including:
1. Wow factor
Operators have a strong sense of pride/passion that New Zealand is among the world’s best tourism destinations and recommended we should showcase this across all aspects of TRENZ. “It’s our one chance to showcase to the world and we need to capitalise on it” – Exhibitor in the post-TRENZ workshop
- There is already a large amount of New Zealand in the event but we are looking at opportunities to further showcase our scenery and culture.
2. Networking
Provide more time for networking, offering more opportunities to generate new business.
“TRENZ is really about the potential to get business...it’s not necessarily realised for a couple of years” – Exhibitor in the post-TRENZ workshop
- You told us that the free time at the start of each day worked really well and allowed you to have extra appointments, so we are keeping that for 2010
- We are introducing a 'speed meet' session on Monday where you can further promote your business and producsts to Buyers.
- We are investigating how networking functions might be fine-tuned to meet your needs better.
3. Buyers
- Buyer registration will occur later this year to allow for a more focused registration process. Prospective Buyers will receive information on the event before Christmas to ensure they have TRENZ in their diaries
- We are looking at bringing in Buyers from new and emerging markets. We welcome your suggestions of any specific Buyers you think would benefit from attending TRENZ.
4. Greater media involvement
Modifications to the Media Programme in 2009 were received well by most delegates. However, we’d like to do more to maximise the opportunity to generate good media coverage from TRENZ.
You also feel as proud as we do that our Prime Minister is our Tourism Minister. We want to shout that from the rooftops and you want us to do that too!
- Scheduled media appointments will happen again in 2010, but we are looking at folding the appointment scheduling into the online diary stage (so you can request appointments with specific media delegates). This will happen towards the end of online diary to ensure it does not impact on your chance to get appointments with Buyers
- A lot of great stuff happens in the Media Centre. A large number of stories are written and are published up to 12 months after the event. We will be making these articles more available so you can see what’s being said and by whom
- We are looking to ramp up pre-event communications to delegates about the PM’s involvement in tourism. We want to ensure he’s at TRENZ and influencing Buyers through his actions and messages to do more business with New Zealand.
Luxury at TRENZ
Following meetings with operators from the luxury tourism sector we have decided not to hold a separate PURE LUXURY New Zealand event in 2010. Discussions are underway with a number of stakeholders about how best to ensure that New Zealand’s luxury tourism product continues to be showcased internationally.
As in 2009, TRENZ will have a luxury emphasis. Leading luxury travel and tourism operators are invited to apply for TRENZ and will have the option of being located in the luxury tourism area of the event. Buyers specialising in the luxury travel market will be invited to attend TRENZ – the TRENZ appointment scheduling system offers luxury attendees the opportunity to manage their TRENZ schedule to focus on their areas of interest, ensuring a week of focused meetings.
The breadth of luxury in New Zealand was demonstrated at TRENZ 2009 with almost all previous PURE LUXURY New Zealand Exhibitors either in attendance or represented.
