2pm-4.45pm The Tamaki Hikoi – 3 hour guided walk For hundreds of years, Maori from the local Ngati Whatua tribe have passed down, from generation to generation, sacred tribal history, traditions and ancient stories.  Guides from the Ngati Whatua tribe re-tell these ancient stories on the “Tamaki Hikoi” – a walking tour through Auckland.  During this journey you will explore Maori culture and heritage and learn why Tamaki (Auckland) was so fiercely fought over, how the tribe co-existed with the land and the impact of colonisation on the indigenous people.   The three-hour guided walk takes in the dormant volcano Maungawhau (Mt Eden) and the Auckland Domain.  Your guide will bring Auckland’s unique landscape alive through music, song, story telling and customs.
Note: light refreshments will be provided.  The gentle walk includes a mixture of terrain including sealed and unsealed tracks, narrow paths and street footpaths. It’s an easy walk for capable walkers with low to medium levels of fitness. Please wear sensible footwear and bring a jacket.
